Comment on NYU Student Occupation and the New Wave of Student Activism: An essay by an NYU student activist by Leave us alone http://takebacknyu.com/2009/03/19/nyu-student-occupation-and-the-new-wave-of-student-activism/#comment-4108 Leave us alone Sun, 12 Apr 2009 17:00:15 +0000 http://takebacknyu.com/?p=952#comment-4108 I don't understand why you had to take over the student center to protest (I disagree with your protest but believe that you have the right to do so)? That was inconvenicing and alienating students, the people you claim to represent. This seems like nothing more than a cry for attention from people with too much time on there hands and an idea that utopia is possible. Since when? You're small groups of students who have little support among the main student body. This is you guys trying to match your parents in radicalism. Sorry, not gonna work. You’re winning? Comment on Get Involved! by Bob http://takebacknyu.com/get-involved/#comment-4069 Bob Sun, 12 Apr 2009 01:33:43 +0000 http://takebacknyu.com/nyuinc/?page_id=29#comment-4069 Do you people have any idea how difficult it is to put your life on the line to protet others? Most of you come from rich families... not like the police who serve and protect. You may be intelligent.. but have little common sense if you dont realize that most cops are trying to do the right thing and protect you. They are not out to get you... they need to keep the peace. You should really be ashamed of yourself. If you have any doubt... spend your energy trying to learn what the police have to go through to get their job then deal with the criminals who would kill and rape you just to survive. For bright people, you are rather shallow! Do you people have any idea how difficult it is to put your life on the line to protet others? This first video, from outside the New School, shows the police shaking something which I guess is pepper spray. There seems to be agreement, even by NYPD, that the spray was used at some point but I didn't see it if it's in the video: http://gothamist.com/2009/04/10/video_nypd_arresting_protesters_at.php The second video, from inside the New School, is more peaceful: http://gothamist.com/2009/04/11/video_nypd_says_inside_new_school_a.php I do have to admit, while I'd hate to see pepper spray used when it's not warranted - it's sure better than being beat by a billy club. At least the New School kids didn't have to be taken out with blood pouring down like back in the 60's. Random Note: In the second video some of the police have the shield on their riot helmets down. At first this puzzled me, since the protesters were so peaceful. Then I remembered hearing from some prison guards once - they're afraid of bodily fluids. Who knows what could be contracted by some stranger spitting at you. Spitting always seemed so innocent until I learned that - now I understand why it gets a harsh reaction. Now in Video!

Comment on OMG Have you heard about the new financial aid plan?….(*giggle*) From SCRC by JazzDiva http://takebacknyu.com/2008/12/05/omg-have-you-heard-about-the-new-financial-aid-plangiggle-from-scrc/#comment-3998 JazzDiva Fri, 10 Apr 2009 20:59:11 +0000 http://takebacknyu.com/?p=292#comment-3998 I was accepted at CUNY and sometimes wonder why I didn't just go there. Then I remember I came to NYU because their Educational Theatre program is one of the best in the world. I also came because NYU alumni recommended the university highly, and all the while they complained about the lack of student aid at the school. Question: Why should I not attend a school that is the best in the field I am studying due to lack of finances? I thought NYU's acceptance policy was equal opportunity for all. If I and others who truly can't afford it here were to go elsewhere or have to incur massive debt to attend, then NYU is truly not an institution for all except those who can pay for it. There's got to be some more aid somewhere other than loans. I was accepted at CUNY and sometimes wonder why I didn’t just go there.
