TALK BACK NYU!: A Community Forum on the NYU Occupation
Mar 2nd, 2009 by Take Back NYU!
We came, we saw, we occupied. Now what?
Two weeks ago, NYU’s Kimmel Center was occupied for just under 40 hours. Take Back NYU! invites you to a conversation about the issues brought up by the occupation. Bring thoughts, criticisms, opinions, and frustrations to engage in a constructive dialogue about TBNYU!, their tactics, their demands, student activism, and social change.
Sponsored by Take Back NYU!
Thursday, March 5, 2009, 7-9 PM
Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South, Room 220

There’s the (probably) big student+union march against budget cuts that day! I think you should mobilize for that and reschedule your forum.
okay okay, so everyone is a good bit embarassed about not what but HOW it took place (well, people that are being honest about it anyway… c’mon, bags of macbooks and a bunch of powerless whining) but as i STILL, despite all this, would like to support your cause I am having trouble finding how to. I see the petition to the right side, but i feel making the NYU email addresses that I should be writing thoughtful eloquent letter to prominent could be useful, yet im having trouble finding them.
I WANT TO SUPPORT YOUR CAUSE BUT HOLY COW, WITHOUT HAVING PINS STUCK IN MY EARS.
I think many support your cause, but the persona that has been tacked to this, i cant support. While I could attend this event, judging from the dragged out, disorganized, whiney mannerisms seen the other day, jesus…. id choose brain surgery over the open discussion.
crap, i meant for this to be a simple request for the email addresses in solidarity, but it became… well… honest.
Is the forum open to non-NYU people?
@studentactivism: Yes, it is, you just may need to sign in with the guard. Or hell, let’s rush the doors! (I’m kidding, this isn’t going to be an occupation.)
“It should also be pointed out, for example, that the chairman of the Judaica department at NYU was exposed as a plagiarist many years ago; the affair was hushed up and he has never been investigated here, in violation of the university’s own regulations.”
NYU has covered up a lot of dirt over the past years. From the student suicides in the library to employees and grads committing crimes in the name of the school says it all.
I think most students don’t care or have the maturity to even care. But maybe the Kimmel occupation will change the minds and hearts of many from now on.
Hello TakeBackNYU:
Taking a stand against the crimes of your own government against the people of Palestine, saying you won’t be complicit and that the lives of people in the U.S. are not more important than the lives of people around the world, all this reflects a morality I uphold.
In that spirit, come and spread the word about an event taking place at NYU tonight:
“Morality Without Gods: Part 2″
6:30-9:00 at The Silver Center, Room 703
all the details are at
http://www.equaltimeforfreethought.org
“#7 The establishment of a student elected Socially Responsible Finance Committee that will have full power to override all financial decisions of the school the Committee deems socially irresponsible, including investment decisions.”
are you serious? i mean really, are you serious? thats about as ridiculous as the idea to give “excess school supplies” to the University of Gaza. Seriously, it’s the equivalent of a guy who bought a Big Mac once, to expect to get voting rights in the next McDonalds board meeting.
Any chance of you guys broadcasting the forum from Ustream? That would be neat
Thanks, Beet. I’ll be there.
stand up for the issues that really count: ban coporate water and ban suits
If you want honest opinions/more opinions make an internet forum, not an actual meeting.
