Urgent update on the occupation…

There is currently no access to the power outlets in the occupied space. The lights are still on, but until further notice, electricity is unavailable to the students inside.

About Time! GO NYU Admin Send in the Dogs!
Seriously, you go to a private institution. You want to see where the money goes, go to a state school where FOIA exists. Otherwise, you can tell your rich mommy and daddy not to pay the money and go elsewhere. I hope that you have a very nice police record after there and cannot get a job anymore. Fight for a real cause, like poverty or homeless in New York.
good, hopefully teargas next.
the only thing youre accomplishing is tarnishing and devaluing the brand/trademark that’ll go on the poor students’ diplomas.
OHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOO!
Hold the Space! Rock on! Keep it Up! Stay Firm! Go Deeper! Deeper!!!!!!
oh, i am spent…
What does this mean? Has power to outlets in the occupied areas been shut off? The electricity has obviously not been cut entirely. Trying to clarify for Indymedia posting.
they shut off the breakers to the outlet prob to kill your cells and laptops
[...] blog is saying that the internet in Kimmel has been disconnected and there’s “no access to power outlets.” Waiting for confirmation from Lynne Brown. Grad students are currently blogging on their [...]
I want to note that I think you guys have a lot of silent support, from students on scholarship, from TA’s, from workers and others who do not feel like they are in the position to risk, for whatever reason.
My suggestions on how to help tap our labor and enthusiasm and respect for what you are doing:
1) Make us, the inactive sleeping supporters feel like we own this movement too — Obama-style. Set up a suggestion box on the website, to get us using our minds to think how we can contribute.
2) Make a big link suggesting that GRAD TA’s discuss this movement in their sections: not propaganda in support of you all, but to open the conversation for pro and con and whatever else — in our recitations. I think the more people start thinking and arguing this in official NYU settings, the more you win. Maybe put up some ideas for sections… like some of the issues and demands, possible open-ended questions — just some easy to follow TA resources, maybe some history of student mvts and where you folks get your inspiration.
3) Do you guys have a cafe press or button selling or something. I’ve wanted some gear ever since I saw the stenciled tags around campus.
4) Put up an easy-to-follow instructions on how to change library and ITS computers’ homepages to takebacknyu.com. Desktop images too — make a downloadable desktop. People’s small subversive actions will make them feel like heros, just as you guys get a kick out of the occupation — but the “occupation” needs to spread to every level of this campus and have more owners.
5) Totally with you on the scholarships and supplies and Gaza. However, think about the difference in substantive demands and procedural ones. I think you are at your best when you are demanding transparency and fairness in the running of NYU. You may lose some support when you start making demands. The important thing is to get to the position to be able to really ask students in an egalitarian manner what their issues are, not to push your own particular issues from among so many that we could come up with. (I may be wrong about this — you have a lot of support– in which case just keep-on-k’ing-O.)
6) Make an even bigger point of Tuition Stabilization and TA Unionization. You are brilliant for linking these two.
7) Good Luck! Email me with anything.
Stay strong! be creative. I’m sure when all the meetings you have been having you have ideas and plans for several different scenarios but is there no way you can get the people outside to be more active? is there any students on the outside that could take another building? can someone make lock boxes? They are doing everything they can to pressure you out! respond with even more support and innovation. Never back down! You have support everywhere!
This is great work dear NYU students….So glad to see you all protesting on behalf of exploited students, workers and people everywhere. I shall be heading over to NYC immediately to join in this protest outside the building (unlucky I cannot be inside Kimmel with the rest of you)
I hope you keep your stand and achieve the results you all have been fighting for. Please know that we all stand with you and behind you in this protest against lack of transparency at NYU, and the blockheads that are running the administration at NYU and far too many Universities here.
Students of the World, Unite !!
hahahaha. i hope you starve, gtfo.
call up someone and get em to gather like food and extension cords or whatnot and throw it to the second floor balcony. seize some other part of kimmel if you can. like commuter lounge and just beat up anyone along the way trying to stop. and pray to god the cops dont call in batman
Apparently, the members of the TBNYU! coalition are in negotiations right now. Any more details on this?
You can always tell us what we outsiders and wannabe NYU applicants can do to carry this protest beyond the campus and how. I’m already linking this site on my blog and informing my friends, readers etc.
How can we help you guys and make sure that your voice & demands are heard all over NYU and beyond? I’d be willing to get more of my friends to come join the crowd outside, and maybe even place placards/posters all over the place, but is it possible to manage a stage-in inside one of the buildings at NYU?
Sounds ambiguous to me since I’m not a student at NYU yet, and run the chance of getting arrested or worse
I’ve applied as a PhD candidate for this Fall….but I’m willing to run the gamut. And so are most of my friends I’m sure. We’ve all suffered enough problems as undergrads once the GOP has come into power and corruption beset this land everywhere!
The power, heat and water will be shut off, this should have been anticipated.
If you can’t get them fresh laptop batteries and a EV-DO card, there are hank crank cell phone chargers. SMS messages sent to a Twitter account would be the most effective way to broadcast, or the can relay messages via paper airplane
What’s next– restriction of bathroom? Why won’t the Administration just negotiate?
Best wishes to everyone involved!!
Yall are so incredibly arrogant and self-centered. When they cut off water and you’re taking dumps in ziplock bags and recycling urine, i hope you realize that you failed miserably…Your list of demands is hilarious–get some organization and get some direction in life immediately you counterculture, anti-establishment fools. Don’t forget to demand more buttons on your backpacks and unlimited supplies of black rimmed glasses and gigantic hoodies to cover up your personal insecurities with your own body… Good job wasting your parents 50k a year to get expelled and come home without a degree…You make kids who actually go to NYU and care about education look like tools. Thanks a lot.
Non-violent protest is as much a part of the fabric of this country as is the right to dissent, to gather in public, and to fight for your beliefs. You may not agree with everything these students have to say, but the university’s failure to even engage in dialogue speaks volumes about its core commitment (or lack thereof) to the very tenets of democracy that it teaches and espouses inside its classrooms and to the world at large.
I cannot remember a time when change has come without this kind of dialogue, without a forcible parting of the lips of the powers that be. Nor can I remember a time when change was not met with such unbridled fear, hatred and loathing so as to make it seem unwanted, unpopular and unconscionable. That anger, those calls for expulsion you hear are simply the voices of fear, crying out because they are ruled by a belief in scarcity: that there is not enough time, not enough money, and not enough people in the world that care for any of us to make a difference, and any of us to have a say. It is time that we said once and for all. This is not true.
There is surely enough. NYU is a multi-billion dollar corporation, staffed and attended by some of the brightest minds in the world. Surely it has a better answer to dissent than threats. To questions than fear. To student gatherings on a publicly owned street than police barricades and arrests. Surely NYU, of all places has a better answer than this.
As the world watches, NYU denigrates itself by quashing the voices of the very people who have entrusted it with their time, money, and education. It responds to calls for action and transparency with secrecy and lies. To calls for peaceful negotiation with brutality and threats. And in the process, it devalues the degrees of every alum, the ID’s of every student, the job title of every employee. That it would embrace every student regardless of his or her beliefs, color, creed, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. That it would be an open place that would nurture the voices of its students and protect their rights. Surely a place like this, if it exists at NYU, would seize the opportunity to talk face to face with its very own, individuals who care about the university enough to put their safety and standing at stake for its betterment. Surely it would have more to offer them than the blunt ends of clubs and the threat of expulsion. Surely it would have more to say than silence.
So speak NYU. The world is listening.
I saw a documentary about hostage/standoff negotiations in which the authorities cut the power to the people inside the building, and turned on floodlights to block their view of what was happening outside. It was really interesting. One of the hostages broke away, and called for help, culminating in an epic showdown with the terror group’s leader, who he shot and threw out a window. It was an amazing end to the crisis.
Oh, wait. That was Die Hard, and Take Back NYU is a bunch of idiots.
heard from Kimmel Cleaning People that they are getting ready to remove the protestors
Good progress.
I think the next step should be to stop water and prop all the doors open. Let winter do its thing.
You guys are a disgrace to NYU. I eagerly look forward to reports of injuries/deaths when the police legally remove you from the campus. You are not revolutionaries, you are spoiled and bored.
You all need to get times on your post!
Get out of our building!! Give up your stupidity already.
Your demands are unfocused and unrealistic, you do not represent the voice of the students, you were never elected or appointed to this position of power that you have seized: your methods are entirely undemocratic, yet you shout democracy. You say your school: I say our school, our building, get out.
omg zombies! rotflol.
you guys are winning me over - this is pretty damn amazing. I don’t know whether I think you should stick it through till you all get arrested or try to compromise to get a few of your demands met; either makes a legit statement, though who knows if getting arrested would actually result in real change here … do what you think is right; keep your wits about you.
Keep In Fight On, YES Yes!
“That person who relieveth a Muslim from distress in this world Allah will in like manner relieve him in the next and he who shall do good to the indigent Allah will do good to him in this world and the next. Be persistent in good actions.”
FABIAN identifies with power and readily expresses his “hope” for starvation. These occupiers have a courage and guts that FABIAN doesnt.
What is the problem with full economic disclosure to those who pay the bills and for whom the institution exists ? As teachers are fired, class size swells and the administrators keep expanding, the faculty should “man up” and stand with the students.
RENT GENORATOERS!! get people from out side to through extention cords up to you. get outlit spliters. heres what to do!!
get out side bussiness to let you use there power.
1:have these items bought by out side supporters, 200 or more foot extension cords, otlit spliters and if you want rent or buy a genorator.
2:have out side supporters through up the ends of the extension cords. have the other end conected to any nereby suporting bussinesses.or deparments in the school with power.
3:dial 311 to get the word out about the no bathrooms because that is illegal.
GOOD LUCK AND NEVER GIVE UP WHAT YOU BELIVE IN. REMEBER YOU STILL HAVE SUPPORTERS!!! LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING, WORK HARD!!!
omg you guyz, how will we plug in our macs??? OPPRESSION!111!
I know for a fact it’s ending today. Aww too bad everyone’s getting suspended!
What a bunch of typical, stupid, rich, spoiled, NYU brats. Get out of the cafeteria so other people can eat. If you honestly can’t pay the tuition, which we all know you richies can, why not enroll at a public school? There are plenty of decent public universities that cost 10 to 20 per cent of what NYU does. It’s not even that good of a school anymore anyway. Get with the program, you NYU trust fund brats. Obviously this shows that none of suburban transplants have jobs you need to be at, seeing as how you can hole yourselves up in a cafeteria and eat other people’s food for several days at a time. You should all be expelled and jailed.
get over yourselves. get the fuck out. most of us don’t even want you there. NYU isn’t a right. its a privilege, and that carries with it certain financial responsibilities. if you’re concerned about costs, go somewhere else. idiots.
i just read that the guys in there have had their internet cut off.
but for what it’s worth, some of us at cambridge (UK) have made a video of support. it’d be good if you told them inside about this. maybe it will boost their morale a little.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHF6SpLA16g
also, fabian is a prick and should be dumped in an ethiopian crop field.
By shutting off the power and with their threats and whatnot, NYU is making mini-martyrs out of you guys. I just wish they didn’t have anything to hold against you, like the claimed “assault on a police officer.”
Why should you get electricity and a internet access when you’re trespassing and have been told to leave? You’re not entitled to it, just like you’re not entitled to anything you’re asking for.
I hope you’re all expelled and blacklisted from other legit universities.
hope you all get expelled… your action just RAISED tuition, hope you know that…
I don’t particularly agree with how the students went about protesting because they are directly affecting students more than they are administrative officials. I do, however, think that NYU officials are making these protesters look like they are hurting students by having to close down Kimmel. Honestly, though… that was NYU’s choice to close the building down. So, THEY are affecting students just as much as the protesters are (but NYU more at a greater extent).
Good. It’s about time you all stopped occupying private property that the rest of the NYU population has been unable to use for the past 2 days. Those of us paying to use these facilities - aka all of us - have been pissed off. You represent an unbelievably small amount of the NYU population. Good riddance.
Those who do not appreciate what they have, shall loose it. Spoiled snot faces who understand next to nothing about the world and are hungry for their 15 minutes of fame. One of the finest Universities anywhere, a private enterprise, cannot be bullied by ignoramuses.
this is all quite silly…
Honestly? Really?! The only time I ever used Kimmel was during my orientation. I really don’t see what the fuss is about.
Sorry guys, we had to postpone the Phish concert that was to be held at NYU due to the occupation. See you in Gamehenge!
Surrender Dorothy…you’ve already humiliated yourselves and undermined everything you purport to stand for with your self-aggrandizing actions.
http://rumorsontheinternets.org/2009/02/20/nyu-protestors-are-completely-embarrassing-themselves/
hey most of the students have been detained. where can we find updates
another nyu student:
If you care about where your money is going (to these facilities you have been denied the past 2 days,) why don’t you support the budget disclosure these students want?
Also, “all” of “us” haven’t been pissed off. Unless you’ve done a survey of the entire student body to discover how many are for or against this, you speak only for yourself.
i hope you guys get expelled you’re all morons
i agree with “another NYU student.” you people are asshats. you are speaking on behalf of the NYU student population but you do not represent us in any way. WE DO NOT WANT YOU IN THERE. WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE THE FACILITIES THAT WE PAY FOR. the sad thing is, several of your demands are actually good ideas, but now they will never be taken seriously because if your childish, illegal, forceful, ill-planned and downright annoying actions.
NYU: TAKE BACK KIMMEL!
p.s. please don’t delete this comment like you’ve deleted all the rest of mine. if you’re so interested in an “open dialogue,” you should be open to critical comments on your web site.
Spoiled brats. If you don’t like what’s going on, transfer! Many people would be thrilled to have the opportunity that you have. Perhaps the university should remove you all and replace you with students who would not take a great education for granted.
You guys are despicable. NYU is an private educational institution and the students do not have a right to demand that the school get involved in political fights. What does Gaza have to do with NYU. I agree it would be extrememly generous if NYU gave scholarships and supplies to students in Gaza but honestly, that is no reason stage a rediculous sit-in. Just because I want a BMW does not give me the right to barge into a dealership and refuse to leave until they give me one for free. Honestly grow up. Furthermore, I agree it would be nice if NYU had a transparent budget but once again, its a private institution that does not have to disclose that information. Anyway, what are you going to do with that infromation if it is released? its not like we can change the spending of a private institution. Finally, we would all like lower tuition but I would also love to live ina world full of lollipops and candy but it can’t happen. Grow up and realize that this is the real world and not some fantasy land. You are acting like completely spoiled petchulant children who are throwing a temper tantrum. Please stop embarrasing the student body of NYU, because you do not represent us!
Twitted.com/takenbacknyu has the low down
for those who haven’t heard, the students are in the process of being removed and suspended (with chance for appeal). it’s unfortunate that the action has taken such a turn, but if anything it serves to highlight the importance of framing, rationality, and focus for future actions. here’s hoping that somebody will learn from these events and put that knowledge into practice effectively.
My comments have been funny and topical. I wish you would allow them to remain as a gesture of your commitment ot the ideology of free speech and our mutual love of the girl in the hat.
Enjoy prison.
above comment is totally right. union rights? financial transparency? fine.
the nyu revenues/expenditures charts and annual budget reports can be found on nyu.edu
so is what they are not telling you on their finance disclosures really enough to do this?
and gaza? wtf? if you represented the student body then you would know that no one here gives a shit because this is school is heavily jewish. we care about gazans but to stand with them is to leave alone the sudanese, the zimbabweans, the burmese, the haitians etc etc.
really guys. you are destroying the legitimacy of a few good arguments. now the school will never negotiate.
Take Back-NYU!!!
Great name!
Seems NYU took back NYU from you guys.
Glad to see you were all expelled. Now you can go to the New School with the rest of your kind. The problem with you Vegans is nothing more than a flamed-broiled Hamburger. — Get a life!
I just want people to recognize that post #6, Miki’s post, is highly representative of the individuals who we are dealing with right now. Incompetent is probably one of the only words that fit these individuals perfectly. Inability to spell shows carelessness and lack of focus. In addition, it shows lack of passion… so ultimately, he’s a hypocrite because he’s here telling individuals to ‘love what they’re doing’.
To pick at minor details that essentially have a lot to do with this ‘occupation’ (really? I think the phrase ‘waste of life’ would be a more tolerable title to all of this.) these individuals, as Miki was even posting about, do NOT have internet or electricity.
This individual is either unaware of his surroundings, has selective hearing and reading ’skills’ or is, again, for lack of a better word, incompetent.
P.S. If there is a red line underlining the word you just typed and you don’t try to figure out why? You’re an idiot.
NYU: TAKE BACK KIMMEL
Here is a hilarious video of last night’s baton action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGGys03mpyk
Boy, all this whining from students who want access to Kimmel is really missing its mark.
Students didn’t shut down access to the Kimmel Center; the NYU administration did. Were NYU a different kind of community, students would’ve enjoyed freedom of movement in and out of the building (not to mention the occupation) as the legitimate issues raised in student demands were discussed. Instead, they seem to have received billy clubs and ultimatums.
Getting angry at students standing up for social justice is like blaming a person who stands up against domestic abuse for the resultant tantrums of her abusive partner. You’re essentially saying “don’t rock the boat, I like getting a few meager benefits from a system that exploits people across the city and world. I don’t want anything better for myself and I don’t care what bad things I’m complicit in.”
Blaming a person who stands up against systemic violence for the violent reaction of their oppressors is myopic and stupid.
wow dudes I am like really with you. taking over a cafeteria is soo productive as opposed to volunteering and doing actual work to improve things
You make think the lights are on but they went out a very long time ago…
luv
AbbyH.
It’s bizarre that so many NYU students are opposed to this occupation. There is such extreme ignorance and apathy going around. I was there last night, just watching people walking by. Why didn’t they join? Why didn’t they at least ask about what’s happening? The students occupying Kimmel are part of a movement, a movement thats fighting for the rights and dignity of all individuals. Perhaps people aren’t totally aware of the extreme oppression and lack of democracy in this world.. but just remember: Rights aren’t granted freely by the oppressors. Every single right you enjoy was fought for by people like these, against a plague of ignorance and violence. Before complaining about losing access to your precious facility, why don’t you figure out why it’s occupied in the first place?
Anyway, this is a hopeless comment. How can I argue with the comfort of a life supported by mom and dads wallet? If you don’t earn what you have, how could you ever appreciate it?
You guys are idiots. I hope you all get arrested.
drew phillips this is not your chance for anarchy. i love you but go home. you made people listen. its over.
You guys can/could have still signed the contract if you have them - along with the students from the other schools - as the contracts say that you have until the end of today to get out - FYI!!!
Yes, the twitter feed confirms parts of that story (http://twitter.com/takebacknyu). I most defiantly hope that this is only the end of a battle and not the war. such a loss can be devastating to a movement but it can also spark several wildfires. If there is anything far off supporters can do to help let us know, if bail is needed I’ll throw what I can your way.
This is kind of screwed.
I’m all for radical direct action, but TBNYU made too many mistakes to even get to the first step of legitimizing themselves. They took too specific of a stance to gain enough solidarity with other people and students, and they also made bad tactical decisions as per the location, etc.
Not to mention, the ideological mistakes of assuming that one small group that is currently experiencing oppression deserves all of the focus, especially considering the countless other groups that are currently being oppressed right in our backyards. Why Gaza specifically? TBNYU should have generalized their political stance.
But the saddest thing was the fact that now, the idea of radical direct action, which is absolutely necessary for total liberation of a society, has taken a blow. All because a few students decided to appropriate issues that weren’t theirs to represent and overlook the issues that they should have started with.
I want to see more occupations at more schools, offices, and institutions everywhere. I want to see people uniting against the division and isolation necessary for a capitalist “democracy” and using all of their skills to rebuild a society independent of capital and the associated inhumanity.
Until then, better luck next time, guys.
Hey its not quite over yet this just in from twitter “Folks are still here, come down to 60 wash sq south to shhow support! http://twitpic.com/1l942“
I feel that Chelsea’s right about martyrs in her comments above.
There will be more occupations to come at NYU, and I’m sure administrators at campuses all over the country are planning heavy confers with each other and especially with the NYU fascist admins to find out what worked, what didn’t and what can be done if/when their subsequent campuses are taken over.
Mark my words, this is yet another new “neo-summeroflove” coming up. Always happens when the economy tanks, doesn’t it?
I’m NOT belittling NYU, or New School or anyone else. They have their own personal and valid reasons for becoming agitated. I just mean in the context of the economic times around them, you can expect issues like transparency, financial aid, scholarships for global south people, etc., to rise to the top.
Yippie!
what are they protesting?
as a former east village resident, i’m all for protesting NYU. but NYU students, who chose to go to this place, are protesting?
umm…
can’t help but think this: the administration probably doesn’t care that much. it’s more a disruption than anything, especially given the self-acknowledged “party atmosphere.” while i am all for exercising our right to protest, this IS a private university and the people in there did beat out other applicants for a spot at this school…why wouldn’t the administration have an issue with expelling them? to them, there are plenty of students who would love to attend NYU.
Would it be possible for someone to fix the date/time settings for this blog, so that we can see accurate timestamps on posts and comments? This would make it much easier to tell if information is current or not. Thanks.
TAKE BACK NYU! SUCKS - SHUT UP WITH THE BUCKET DRUMS. IF I WASN’T SO BACKED UP WITH WORK FROM YOUR DISRUPTION THE PAST 2 DAYS I’D TAKE THE 20 MINUTES TO COME THROW EGGS AT YOU ALL. A**HOLES.
Who give you guys the right to say that you speak for all NYU students? I don’t agree with half of your demands. Are you serious about risking your future over Coca- Cola products? If you want a Coke or a Sprite so much, go to K-Mart and get a 12 pack. Coke, Pespsi. It taste the same. Besides, most schools even high schools have contacts with soda companies as to what they sale at that school. What makes NYU any different? Also, your support for Gaza is ridiculous. You really think that all the Jewish trustees on the board of NYU are going to support that? So do everyone a favor and stop saying that you speak for all NYU students. You speak for the selfish few who screw everything up for people who want to make change the mature and correct way.
This sounds like a bunch of kids play-acting at protest. What an embarrassment to real radicals everywhere.
Excellent! Suspended and thrown out of University housing! Go live in a commune!
You all lost credibility the second you included aid to Gaza, and scholarships for Palestinian terrorists. What about scholarships for kids from Darfur, or North Korea, or Tibet?!?! I thought this organization was started as a financial protest against the University? oh yeah, its a private school which means its a private corporation which means they don’t have to tell you shit! now get over it, or go to a public university!
On the contrary, Take Back NYU is composed of over twenty student groups who’ve been working for years to democratize one of the largest, most corporate universities in New York. They’ve showed a lot of daring and resolve in confronting the NYU administration, and have enjoyed broad support from most “real radicals” in NYC.
was out there today showing support. you guys are incredible and are doing something brave and right. you’re redefining occupation as a powerful tactic. you’re all inspirational to those of us who believe in a better world.
no gods, no masters!
years? seriously? and THIS was the game plan? what a goddamn clusterfuck, I’d hate to see what it would’ve been like if they went ahead with protesting last year.
First rule of civil disobedience: accept full consequences for your actions.
The fact the first “demand” is amnesty shows the utter amateurism at work.
There is a very good reason the WWF and Greenpeace keep all of those attorneys on retainer. There is a VERY GOOD reason that Martin Luther King, Jr./Rosa Parks/etc. spent all that time in jail.
Raising awareness to issues of social justice and seeking to right wrongs is admirable and worthwhile, but not when your first impulse is to get off scot-free and with no cost to yourself whatsoever. The entire point of civil disobedience is to take risks, put yourself out there. You would do well to learn some lessons from members of the Religious Society of Friends, with one of the most storied histories of civil disobedience in the country’s history and a firm commitment to social justice.
And just a thought, but you wasted a ton of effort, energy, and time bringing attention to too many causes. This act could have been FAR better planned and executed.
Incidentally, who was going to pay for the costs to meet all of your demands? Twelve scholarships is roughly around 600K. If you want the administration to listen to you, go to them with a plan. Civil disobedience is best saved as a last resort.
You brats all need a good spanking. I just contacted NYU and told them that I would no longer donate to the University unless the lot of you idiots were expelled.
Get out of Kimmel. You are wasting everyone’s times. You do not represent the views of the majority of NYU. All you are doing is making NYU look like a bunch of idiots and wrecking our facilities. I hope your all expelled arrested or both. This is a waste of the city of New York’s time, our university’s time and the student’s time. If I didn’t have work to do for the classes that I am paying for through a part time job and some loans myself I would come down there, amass a crowd and take you guys out of kimmel myself. Dumbshit kids trying to look like you have an opinion.
If by real radicals, you mean the incredibly belligerent anarchists, then sure.
I am not an NYU student but I sympathize with you all. No electricity? Call 311 and report it. An inspector will be sent
and the school will receive a violation. Good luck!
It’s not radical to ask for transparency. You should focus your protest to that, and you will be more overly supported by students and faculty and administrators.
Use the channels available to you and focus on dialogue, not just demands. This will help everyone.
Hi….who is moderating this blog? I posted 2 comments and I don’t see them here
“They’ve showed a lot of daring and resolve in confronting the NYU administration, and have enjoyed broad support from most “real radicals” in NYC.”
Would these be the same “real radicals” who sat back and allowed Bloomberg and Wall Street to turn the city into a theme park for the super rich while ordinary people faced police brutality and were pushed out of their homes thru gentrification?
Yeah, THAT’s a ringing endorsement…
