Update on the occupation.
Feb 20th, 2009 by Take Back NYU!
A prominent head of a Department here at NYU has issued a statement of solidarity with the students involved in the occupation of the Kimmel Center, and much of the faculty in that dept. have taken a stand to support these students as the occupation commences
Helsinki University has also pledged solidarity with the NYU occupation, and recognized the parallels that their demands have with the demands issued by the students here at NYU. Also, the University of D.C. has issued statements of support for NYU and those individuals fighting for student democracy on their campus.
Right on!
Right on!
So…the demands include: spend more on scholarships, spend more for unionized employees, spend more on supplies to send overseas….and freeze tuition. Perhaps you haven’t taken economics yet. You want the University to promote your agenda, yet are not willing to pay for it. Sounds kinda cowardly. It would be one thing if you were campaigning for an additional tuition fee that would go to pay for your agenda. Put your money where your mouth is.
You guys are the most courageous folks ever! If I could only be like you, standing up for what I believe in and fighting the man! Hold the Space! Right On! Hell no, we won’t go! Power to the People! Give Peace a Chance! Help, I Need Somebody! Hey Jude!
For real, though, awesome. So, awesome. I mean I can’t tell you how awesome this. So, bad-ass, awesome, super-duper! Fantastical! Superb! Awesommmmmmmmmme!
Hold the Space!
a couple wackadoos in your department, and non-officials at other schools doesnt count as official solidarity and support. but whatever makes you feel better about your sophmoric tantrum.
As a CUNY student you have my utmost support and the support of all student activist at Bronx Community College. I commend your braveness and I wish there were more student like you all. Solidarity brothers and sisters keep your head held high.

Awesome, but which department? And what else can those of us on the outside do to support the students which remain in Kimmel?
Who? Which department head was it?!?!
Who is the “prominent head of a department”?
Can you provide links to such statements? Otherwise, it seems like more bull shit to me.
“A prominent head of a Department here at NYU has issued a statement of solidarity”
Care to name names?
Uh, if the “statement of solidarity” is legit, why the anonymity?
what department could possibly be so stupid as to align themselves with a bunch of whiny self-righteous hipsters?
Your demands are a shining light for thousands of students.
Especially that taboo demand to divest from the Israeli military, to defend the shattered population of Gaza and its destroyed university.
You’ll always be remembered for that. Free Palestine, free the planet, and why not free Bobst too!
Good luck with everything!
can’t you identify the department head who did this? what’s the mystery for?
As a graduate of NYU’s School of Social Work (MSW 1991) I support your demands.
thanks for ignoring my dissenting opinion, assholes. it wasn’t a rhetorical question–which idiot department was it??
“Right on!”
Your slang and your self-centered, overly idealistic politics belong back in the 1960s. If you want democracy, why occupy? Why not ask your fellow students to help you gain the right to demand a vote on it? If what you’re doing really is an act of democracy, then all of your proposals will pass a referendum, no?
It should also be pointed out, for example, that the chairman of the Judaica department at NYU was exposed as a plagiarist many years ago; the affair was hushed up and he has never been investigated here, in violation of the university’s own regulations.

I agree with some of your demands, but the Gaza one? Disgusting. I’m a liberal, but I can’t stand the claim of my fellow liberals that gaza is the one that needs help? Where is your concern for the innocent Israelis that have dealt with suicide bombings and rocket attacks on civilians coming from Gaza for years? Disgusting.
