Speaking of NYU-AD…
Nov 8th, 2008 by Take Back NYU!
The Coalition for Fair Labor at NYU has endorsed Take Back NYU!! While many in the NYU Community have raised a variety of concerns about NYU in Abu Dhabi, the Coalition fformed last spring to address the specific issues of fair working conditions on all NYU campuses in the hopes of promoting dialogue that does not make presumptive statements about Abu Dhabi or regional culture and that recognizes labor exploitation on NYU’s New York campus. The Coalition for Fair Labor at NYU joins faculty, students and other members of the NYU community in collective response to the absence of fair labor standards governing the development, construction and operation of NYU Abu Dhabi.
If you want to do something about the sitch with NYU-AD right now, you can sign a petition asking the administration/trustees to adopt a fair labor code of conduct or send a form letter to John Sexton and Mariet Westermann, the vice chancellor of NYU-AD. This code is a modified version of the Workers’ Rights Consortium Code of Conduct, to which NYU is a signatory (though this code does not explicitly apply to overseas campuses) and (hopefully) will be introduced to the University Senate soon. You can also contact your student/faculty senator (or somebody else’s) and tell them how much you <3 workers rights at NYU.
